CHARISMATIC PERSONALITY | Navaeh normally comes off as an introvert, thoug she still seems fairly friendly, and even a little cheerful. Although, you could never compare her to Tohru. She is simply nice, despite being fairly anti-social.
But on the inside, it's like a swirl of emotions. It's rare for her to actually be happy, though she almost always seems content, at least. Nevaeh does her best to never cry, and she manages to keep up the guise in public, though sometimes at night she will cry herself to sleep. Though she hates self-pity an being treated as if people are sorry for her, that doesn't always mean that she doesn't feel sorry for herself. It makes her ashamed when she does, though.
Although she could have friends if she were a little more social, she chooses not to and just keeps to herself. It makes things easier. If you don't make friends, you don't have to risk losing them. |

HISTORY| Nevaeh only lived at the Main house for the first three years of her life, and has no memories of being there, because of how long ago it was. After those three years, apparently her parents had some sort of disagreement with somebody--maybe Akito or some other person of high status in the family--and so they had moved away, not enjoying being harrassed. The reason Nevaeh's name was never Sohma was because her mother was the Sohma, while her father was of another family. So of course they adopted his name, as was the usual custom.
For most of Nevaeh's life, things were okay, despite the fact that her parents fought a lot.
Then one cold winter day, her father just walked out. He left while she and her mother were both sleeping, and when they woke up he was nowhere to be found.
For the first few months of this, Nevaeh was still okay despite being very upset. Though her parents fought, she'd been close to them. So her father just walking out as if he didn't care about either of them had scarred her.
But when they'd moved away from the Main House, the money that was provided to her and her parents had been cut off as well. And her mother didn't have a job at the time. Her mother became more and more stressed. First nothing happened, aside from the fact that her mother was always, always on edge.
But then her mother started saying things to her, such as, "If you weren't around, things would be a lot easier on me!"
From cruel words, it escalated to being hit. Then, the beatings got more and more intense. Before Nevaeh knew it, her mother had seemed to become a totally different person. She was no longer the loving mother she'd once been. Instead, she was a woman Nevaeh didn't know. She was a stranger in her mother's skin.
It was when she became about nine or ten that she decided she hated her parents. She hated her father for walking out on them when they needed him, and she hated her mother for choosing to take the stress out on her.
But Nevaeh had also started hating herself, more than either of her parents.
After all, it must be her fault that this had happened.
When she was twelve, some neighbors had finally reported to the police that they heard a lot of screaming one night, and so they had come to investigate. Finding Nevaeh in her room, covered in bruises and cuts that just didn't seem to want to stop bleeding was enough to make them take immediate action. A week after it had gotten out that she was abused, her mother was put in jail and she was moved to live with Jensa Kono, who is still her foster mother.
Nevaeh is the oldest kid in the foster home and when Jensa is busy--which is often--she takes care of them. |
