" We aren't stupid. We're happy. "
FULL NAME Tama Mika Sohma
NICKNAME(S) Tama Chan
AGE 14
GENDER Female
GRADE 9th
YOU’VE GOT STYLE, LOOKIN’ SO SHARP| Tama would seem to be the quirky, yet exremely popular one. At first glance, you might wonder why anyone hangs around her at all. She wears Grey flats with every outfit. Normally, her outfits consist of a tight white, black, or bright blue shirt and a puffy yellow, red, blue, or all colored skirt. On rainy days she usually wears a rain jacket that fits her like a dress. It's white with fire engine red zipper and drawstring. Her hair is dirty blond and cut right below her ears. She usually leaves it down and keeps long bangs from a darker period of her life out of her eyes by using a bright red headband. Her eyes are icy blue, but they don't have a menacing look, but rather one of innocence and ignorance. Tama is cursed with the menacing zodiac of the rooster. When hugged, she turns into a blond hen with red feathers on her tail tip and wing tip.|

CHARISMATIC PERSONALITY | It was always this way. She was presented with a group of strangers, and within minutes she was being prodded and smiled at like an old friend. It wasn't really that she was likeable, but because there was nothing to expect from her her. She was harmless. Her eyes were big, round, blue orbs of something like innocence; like the childhood all of us wanted. It's not that she had that child-hood, but she believed in it. It's an automatic response to lower their defense. She doesn't want to hurt you.
The Problem is, she might. There are places in Tama that are no man's land; places of dunes of sand and plains of ice where only the bravest may stalk. It certainly isn't her. She has built herself up to a point where she is above what she fears and regrets. The problem is is that, though it is mostly sturdy (she doesn't make mistakes), there are still the cracks that she could slip through if one 'pushes' her. Her response would be enough to make a grown man tremble. She never wants to return to wear she was so if her carefully constructed self is ever touched, she verbally explode.
Maintaining her image is a hard thing. Tama is bipolar, and although most of the time she keeps the sorrow and anger at bay, it is always stalking her, creeping like a cloud in the corners of her eyes. She may never escape it. So as not to 'see' it, she regularly smokes drugs as well as sip the occasional bottle. She feels like there is no other escape. On top of that, she's cursed. Sometimes she believes that there is no escape, but that would be her slipping back into a crevice in which case she'd think of something else.
Tama forever strives to think that everything is fine. If everything isn't fine then that it will be, or it was. In her opinion, happiness comes in many forms, and if you aren't getting it, then you aren't being creative enough and seaching in the right spots. Her lifelong quest is, after breaking her curse, is to find happiness, for she hasn't found it yet. Secretly, though, she is afraid; not just that she won't ever find joy, but that she might have made a mistake. It would be a mistake that would effect the way she views the world and that has the potential to send her streaking back to the bottom of the starting like; where she started in the beginning; not a good spot.|

BIRTHDAY May 33
HISTORY| It was a good life. Everything was going according to plan. Her parents didn't mind that she was cursed. No, they were positively happy that they had a unique, spirited, intelligent daughter. Her father, Akira, was in mythology and he found it absolutely brilliant. Chako? Well, Chako wouldn't have cared if she'd given birth to a cow. All of the previous children she'd attempted to bear had been miscarriages and she was just happy to love her daughter to her fullest ability. It was such a happy time. Akira didn't in fact no much about most of his family, the Sohmas. He had moved out as soon as possible and met the love of his life, and soon his baby daughter. They lived in a small apartment in Kyoto, and a lot of the time Akira had to work and Chako stay home and watch Tama (they couldn't send her to daycare for fear that she would be hugged). Up till the point that she was seven (she was also home-schooled), she learned that be hugged wasn't a bad thing. She knew she was different, but she didn't find anything wrong with it. It was normal for her to turn into a hen and for her parents to coo along with her. It was something like happiness.
However, there was always something. Tama could never be completely at peace. She was always agitated by something or other. It had been obvious that she had some OCD problems, but there was another thing that her concerned parents couldn't quite put a finger on. It was depression, but how could they know? All they knew was that one minute Tama would be screaming at them about something and the next minute sobbing into their arms. They watched as her mind tore her to pieces. They decided a family outing would help.
It was her 8th birthday and she was being taken on a camping trip. It was May 33, and perfectly sunny. She'd never been out this part into the country and she was loving it. According to her parents, they were to eventually end up at the ocean shore. Oh how excited she was! It was brilliant. They saw marvelous things beyond her dreams. She never thought the world could be so vivid. She was so distracted that when the shadows of her mind descended upon her...it was already too late.
The mood swept her up and dumped her in unfamiliar territory. They were taking a small walk through a public garden. It was in a small town and they were alone. It hit her so fast she barely knew what was happening. Her mother mentioned something about impending school work and making friends and how she was just the best in the world; Tama snapped. She knew in realistic part of her that she was being silly; her mother had said nothing wrong. However, another part of her mind was full of bloodlust and violence and to stop would be a loss of a lot of her pride. She turned on her mother with a brutal verbal response that you wouldn't expect from an eight year old. Her mother faltered in shock and Akira stepped in, being the father. He tried to grab hold of her arm and give her a stern telling, but she was too quick. Tama darted out into the streets and proceeded running until she got to a small bridge. Her parents had followed in the car and were now getting out as to stop their distraught daughter. By this time Tama was having her breakdown, half sobbing in regret about what she'd done, hating herself, half still stomping around in frustration. Frustration about what? Why she even reacted the way she did. The site of her parents refueled her anger, though, and all that entered her mind was the will to hurt them. She wanted to hurt them so terribly; so that they'd maybe feel the pain that she went through everyday. They were over a river that led to the ocean. Her father came toward her, mother by his side. As soon as he came close, she pushed out her arms in a shove. Her father stumbled back, not expecting it, and bumped into her mother. Chako wasn't so sturdy and not only stumbled, but made the mistake of placing a foot over the bridge side and toppling down into the river. Akira was aghast and forgot Tama completely and dived in after her. She never saw them again and could only hope they were floating peacefully out at sea. How could she have known, though? They didn't know how to swim.
The people found her, a crying mess, rocking on the balls of her feet, looking over the edge over the bridge, but not close enough to fall in. She didn't let any man touch her, knowing that she'd change. She didn't want to change. They looked for her parents, but they were never found. No one ever discovered that Tama was the one who murdered them. She was just a sweet eight year old, right? The mother's family wouldn't take her for they were poor and couldn't afford to take a child. Akira's grandfather took her, though,
He was a kind old man named Orakki. He would never harm anyone, and loved Tama just as much as Akira had. He never tried to push her, and when Tama had her fits, he just assumed that it was from the loss of her parents (which was untrue). One day, when she was ten (she had been going to an all girl's school), she was playing in the road. It was a small country place, much like the place her parents had died at, and she called it home. The unusual car passed and was speeding. It would've hit Tama if not for Orakki, who picked her up and ran to the other side. Of course, she turned into a hen, but she was safe. Orakki on the other hand suffered fatal injuries. He didn't mind that she'd turned and didn't think much on it. At his age his injuries were more severe, and his attention was focused on his own health. Four days later he died. Tama would have been sent to but another Sohma, but her change had attracted unwanted attention. She had been discovered as a zodiac.
Akito immediately questioned her, curious as to how she had stayed under the radar. Her mental struggles were obvious from the beginning, and Akito used them to the best of his ability to make good use of them. He had managed to twist the admittance of murder of her parents out of Tama's mouth and used them against her. He gave her a sick version of trust by helping her fix herself up to a maintainable image, but at the same time, she was under Akito's favor, for she owed him her secrets. In a way she had lost her freedom. Tama doesn't mind, though. Even if she sometimes is subjected to Akito's wrath, in a way nothing could be worse than herself, and by at least being presentable and controlling her self, but still in debt to the macho zodiac puppeteer, it was happier than she knew she would ever be.|[/blockquote]
