Lackadaisical; without much enthusiasm, energy, or effort
Kira hardly ever slept, really, despite the fact that she was always disappearing into her room to 'take a nap'-normally it was to read or drink or something, but don't tell anyone that, she's not supposed to have alcohol with her meds.
Today had been a very slow day. Any day without beer or cigarettes was a slow day for Kira. The day had passed, off and on sleeting, no snow that day. It was pretty cold that day, but now that the sun was sinking into the gray sky, the temperature was dropping even lower. Kira, after being ordered by her doctor that day to get some sleep and lay of the whiskey, she decided instead to go buy some beer, get wasted, and then complain about the hang over tomorrow. But with Kira's luck, even though she showed her i.d., the man at the counter of the liquor store told her,
'Go give you mom's i.d. back to her and go home, kid.' Kira of course responded with to that with, ‘I'm not a kid! I'm twenty-six, swear to God!' And then he kicked her out.
Must have not worked because Kira doesn't believe in God.
Kira was now going to take a walk, then probably go home and read something. Not a novel, however. She rather disliked novels. Who wanted to read about some make-believe boring person with love issues? Then they fall in love with their one and only true love, who happens the most handsome man in the world and they live happily ever after? News flash, the real world doesn't work like that. The only novel she liked was Crime and Punishment. Though she might not admit it, she cried while reading it. And then she never read it again.
Kira kicked at a pile of snow, mumbling under her breath. Maybe she would go home and change into her new fishnet stockings and then go clubbing. But her stomach rather hurt right now so she decided against it. Presently, Kira was in a pair of black and gray pinstripe trousers, a white blouse with a black vest over that. The large trench coat she was wearing paired with a tall pair of black heels made her look very much like the wife of a mobster. Or even the mobster herself. Of course, the look was rather suiting for Kira, even more so if you knew what she did for a living.
Maybe I’ll check up on my club… Kira thought absentmindedly. She hadn’t been there lately because of the cold weather that made her body ache like crazy, but now that she was out of the protection of the warm blankets of her room to combat the cold, she might as well make this trip worth her while. So she turned left to her club at the next street corner instead of right to her house. According to Roak, the night club was doing well, but then again, Roak’s version of good was ‘well, things could be worse, we could be in jail, or dead!’ Should have asked Viktor...
Kira continued on her cold walk through the dense, white snow. Kira mumbled softly under her breath, plumes of fog tumbling for her pink, cold lips. She couldn’t feel the end of her nose anymore or her fingers, which she had begun to go back and forth from rubbing them briskly and shoving them in the pockets of her coat. She knew that when she got home and took off her shoes, her toes would be cold. It would have been smart to wear thicker socks with the high heels, Kira blamed her inability to think on the fact that she was always drugged up on something that doctors were always forcing her to take. She was only operating on half her brain cells on good days, thanks to those bloody doctors! Kira mumbled something dirty about doctors and crossed her arms to preserve body heat, she looked a bit like an upset teenager, with her arms crossed and all, marching through the snow, and she was almost buried up to her ankles in it, poor girl, the fluffy, white cold substance was going to eat her alive. And if that didn’t kill her, the terrible flu that she got afterwards would. She already had one foot in the grave, if she got the flu now; it would probably push her all the way in.
Not that Kira was thinking about that of course. Like I said, she was only operating on half her brain cells.
Soon, Kira reached the night club. Music could be heard from the outside, which was good because that meant people were dancing, and the more they danced the more they drank, which means that she might actually be able to pay the electric bills this month, instead of pilfering it off of an unsuspecting neighboring business. It was true, Kira could see the not-hidden-well cable Viktor had strung running from behind the club, to a next door hardware store. Kira looked up at the bright blue, florescent lights that displayed the name of the night club, LACKADAISY. A string of pearls accompanied the name, hung between the ‘D’, across the ‘A’ and ‘I’ and finally resting on the ‘Y’. The club was somewhat old-fashioned themed, and used to be quite popular when Lee was still alive, then again, when Lee was still alive he made sure all of the ‘big bosses’ came by, and then they had a whole flock of people, but since Lee died, it really hasn’t been the same. People stop coming by, and then they had to steal electricity from neighbors who used to benefit from Lackadaisy’s big success, though it was dangerous with all t he mobsters coming around… and often they hated Lee and Kira and said that they were filthy scum for letting ‘those kinds of people’ around the area… saying that they were turning the neighbor into a ‘bad place’… Not to mention many roaring drunks passed out at their doorsteps, which was an annoyance, to say the least, especially when they’ve vomited everywhere….
“Yup, baby doll.” Kira mumbled, observing the building. “We used to be at the top of our game, now look at us. This establishment has almost gone down the drain…” Kira sighed and shook her head. Oh well… time to go find a bar that would let her in…
Kira only managed to go around the street corner again when she had to sit down on a bench from exhaustion. Pulling her black peat coat tighter around her slender, food deprived frame, she gazed at the nightlife of the city. The city at night had always amazed her. But then again, she had grown up living in this darkness, she was used to the things that happened at night. She gazed up at the sky for a moment, it looked like somebody had spilled ink on the stars, causing them not to shine, and the snow kept on falling, freezing the world all around it.
“It’s always darkest…” Kira murmured, with a slight smirk playing on her lips, “before it goes pitch black.”
((I needed a thread for Kira. >.< This is open, so anyone can really just show up. Maybe somebody crazy who can like, attack her. I dunno. Just suggestions. ^^' I just wanted a thread for her. LoL.))
