((Haha, okay. Don't you love how he's not totally perfect and uber gentlemanly?))
School sped by after that. He found him thinking about Lacey a lot. A lot of girls would give anything to date a Sohma. A lot of girls would accept an invitation from him without a second thought. But she wasn't like a lot of girls, apparently.
Now, school was over, and he headed to detention. He passed Kyo and Yuki in the hall, arguing again.
"Hey Yuki. Hey Baka," he'd called to them, then walked on. Kyo had fumed angrily. Yuki had, of course, remained utterly calm.
He entered the detention room and took a seat. He pulled out some homework he needed to get done. It wouldn't hurt, would it? Then he'd sneak home and get into his room before his mom got home from work and all Hell would break lose. Again.

Lacey walked into to detention reluctantly. She really, really, didn't want to see that Sohma again. He made her snap. She snapped at a Sohma. She sighed and walked in and sat in the back of the room. She'd been here before, the teacher goes in, takes attendance, and leaves to go watch the math channel in the teacher's lounge. Typical.
He took roll and only Lacey and Toji were in the room. Lacey got started on her physics homework just to make him happy. He nodded curtly and walked out of the room.
((Bleh. And YUS! xDDD))

"Teachers can really be stupid sometimes," Toji commented, smirking as he worked. They weren't sitting too far apart, really. He could talk without calling across the room.
Then he changed the subject. "I must suck," he said sarcastically. "All of us Sohmas are supposed to be perfect, huh? Not even Kyo gets detention." He smirked again, almost cynically. "I must be the worst of us, then."
He paused.
"Hey, sorry if I ended up embarrassing you in there," he said. He was a guy who jerked girls around, but he also knew when an apology was in order. Of course, then he ruined it. "But you should at least thank me for trying, right?"

"You're right. Thank you." She rolled her eyes. "You got your wish, now we're hanging out in detention." She said sacastically. She put her feet on the other chair next to her, so she could lean back. She finished her homework almost instantly.
"Isn't Kyo that red haired boy?" She asked quietly.

"Yeah," Toji replied. "The idiot," he added. No, he didn't exactly dislike Kyo. That's just how he treated the cats. He'd refer to Dante just as rudely. He worked on his own homework, and he was soon done as well. If he didn't do well, he got in trouble, and his uncle would have another reason to punish him. "By the way, you know you wanted to spend some time with me," he added arrogantly.

"Oh yes, I suppose you're right," Lacey said sarcastically, leaning over her desk. "I didn't want to come here anyway. I didn't want my head cut off by the oh-so-exclusive 'Sohma Fan Club'." She said adding the air quotes. And yes, they did have one.

Toji rolled his eyes. "Women," he muttered under his breath while he was looking away. He looked over at her again, giving her that nonchalant, 'I'm totally being nice to you' smile. "Yes, well, that 'Sohma Fan Club' is mostly dedicated to Yuki. And half of the girls there hate my guts anyway, so I doubt that they'd bother with you," he said, smirking once again.

"That's probably beacause you've dated and dumped girls from there. What are they to you? A toy? I've seen you dump girls before, and I know it's not pretty." She didn't smile, and she ignored his. "I heard what you said just now too." She said a little irritated

"Isn't love just a game? People use it to amuse themselves. So yeah, you could say they're like toys. It's fun. When you get bored, you dump them, and move on with your life," Toji replied, sounding ticked off now. He didn't understand it was wrong, what he did. He just went by his father's example. "Not like it matters. That's how it always is," he added.

Snap... "...A game? Love is a game, or is that merely what you think? How is it a game when people get married and get committed to themselves and their marriage! It's serious! You've done a lot of crap to some girls! Don't you get it?! You've hurt most girls! People aren't toys! I was your next one!" She ranted. Her hands were balled up into tight fists at her sides. Angry tears rolled down her cheeks.
She ran otu of the room and down the hall. She hoped he wouldn't come after her. She wiped her tears quickly. She stopped at the floor to ceiling gasping. She was being used for his next 'toy'. She put her fore head on her knees and tried to even her breathing and angry-tears.

Toji groaned and stood up from his seat. "D**n woman. They're always so ****ing emotional," he muttered through gritted teeth. "They don't understand. People don't understand how it really is. People who get married are just obsessed with the game," he continued under his breath as he walked through the door, trying to find her. When he finally found her, at the end of the hall, he stood over her.
"Look. You need to get up. We're both gonna get caught, then what's gonna happen? We'll have more detention. Come on, get up." He resisted the urge to kick her, knowing that this really wasn't the time. At least he wasn't entirely like his father, who would have kicked Lacey and screamed at her to get up, then would have kicked her again.
"Come on," he urged.

"Just leave me alone. I can put up with more detention. You just don't want to hurt your little ego. You have the choice to leave. I'll leave when I'm ready." She murmured.

Toji rolled his eyes and gripped her by the arm, but not roughly. He firmly pulled her up. "Look. Whatever I said, I'm sorry it hurt you. But this is how the real world is. Most people take it as just a game. I know. I've seen it. It's the only way to live. If you don't like it, deal with it."
He wanted to say a lot more, but held his tongue/

Lacey jerked away from him. She looked at him, eyes full of misunderstanding. "Look at my parents; 23 years of marriage, and they still look at eachother as if they just got married." She looked away from him and walked away. " I'll be back at the classroom in a minute." She walked into the bathroom to peel the ugly school uniform shirt off, to reveal a cotton lace tanktop. She redid her mascara and splashed her face with cool water.
She walked out of the bathroom and put her ugly uniform shirt back and grabbed her mp3 player. It was playing Numb by Linkin Park. She got into the classroom and felt eyes burn into her back.

"My parents have been married just as long," Toji told her when she entered again, watching her intently. "Maybe longer. I'm not sure."
Then he shook his head. "Look. You just don't understand. You haven't lived around it. You haven't seen it. You have no idea what I'm talking about," he told her. His voice was cold, eyes chips of ice. He waited for her to reply.
